LESSON LEARNED

I’M HUMAN…

This is a journal entry about me… my drive and my limitations. Last week I received this wonderful email from my niece. She was so kind in these words about me, my art, my passion. I have mentored her, and one day I know she will do her art with the same entusiasm. She sent this letter to many of her friends.

My Amazing Auntie Jackie

I am sharing my amazing Auntie Jackie who is a talented painter/artist and an extraordinarily interesting woman.  She is in her 70′s (rather irrelevant in this case although necessary to point out) and is a testament to the notion that if you keep your heart and mind open, age is nothing but a number.  She is dedicated and determined to keep her art current yet timeless.  She is a mover and a shaker and a woman I greatly admire. I hope you find taking a peek at what she has accomplished entertaining and inspirational.

THE LESSON…

I have no idea about my age and it’s limitations. I really believe that I am in the same body, with the same drive that I’ve always had, and that this body is ageless. OK I am wrong. Last week, I decided to do…

  • a daily post to this blog
  • 5 new pieces of art
  • 2 portraits for a client
  • replace my desktop computer (horrors!!!)
  • add 5 new pieces of art to FineArtAmerica
  • talk to friends on Twitter
  • eat
  • and last and definitely least…sleep

Here is the price I’ve paid for thinking of myself as ageless. The body isn’t ageless, and the intensity of my passion moved my blood pressure sky-high.

And then I realized, age isn’t irrelevant. I’m driven without care about the vehicle that has been so kind to me on this journey. There’s my story. I will definitely be kinder. I’m grateful that it was just a warning, and that I can now slow down, and remember that it’s not how much I do, but that I do sensibly. You’ll still hear from me daily, but if I miss a few, I’m giving the body a well deserved rest.
