I look forward to my annual visit to this incredible festival. If you’re anywhere near SanDiego in May or June…make sure you add this to your itinerary.
The program for was a Mendelssohn Overerture, Mendelssohn Piano Concerto No.3 in E Minor, Mozart Symphony No 33 BFlat, K319, and a real SURPRISE
Mozart “Bassoon Concerto in B-flat, K191. I never really heard a bassoon solo, and it’s true
“the bassoon is an instrument that gets no respect.”

Betsy Schwarm wrote : Even in its best-known apprearance, the bassoon is presented in a less than complimentary fashion, for in Peter and the Wolf, violins are cast as the hero, whereas the bassoon is relegated to the role of grumpy grandfather.”
The Mozart Bassoon Concerto was the highlight of the evening for me, and I have new respect for the instrument and definitely for the soloist who performed.
UT SanDiego News: You can stop laughing at the bassoon. Steven Dibner put a stop to any references about his instrument being a joke with an assured, communicative performance of Mozart’s Bassoon Concerto in B-flat on Thursday’s Mainly Mozart Festival Orchestra concert at the Balboa Theatre.

Come Hear the Difference!

Mainly Mozart is one of San Diego’s leading music organizations. But it’s not just a music organization. We believe in connection, and we believe in an uncompromising commitment to quality.

Mainly Mozart’s mission is to enrich the lives of today’s and tomorrow’s passionate music lovers by connecting them to the music of Mozart and the Masters, to world-class musicians, and to each other.

We produce the largest Spring music festival in the region: the Mainly Mozart Festival, which takes place each year from April to June.  We produce a Winter Season from January through early April, and more intimate concerts year-round for our Club Amadeus, an aficionado group made up of some of San Diego’s most committed and passionate music lovers.

Our venues are eclectic – from the brilliantly restored Balboa Theatre in downtown San Diego to the acoustically superb Neurosciences Institute - from the striking St. Elizabeth Seton Church in Carlsbad to San Diego’s most intimate concert music venue, The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe - we produce the greatest music in the world throughout the delightfully diverse regions of San Diego county.
